Eat inside the park
The Beach Chalet brewery restaurant and the Park Chalet behind it are the only full sit-down restaurants in the park, both at the Ocean Beach end. At the Music Concourse, the de Young Café and the Academy of Sciences’ café and Terrace restaurant serve lunch (museum admission may be required). The Japanese Tea Garden Tea House serves tea and snacks, and the Blue Heron Boathouse has a snack bar.
The Inner Sunset
Just south of the Music Concourse, Ninth Avenue and Irving Street are packed with restaurants, from San Tung’s famous dry-fried chicken wings at 1031 Irving Street to Korean food at Um.ma on Ninth Avenue, plus bakeries, sushi and coffee. The N Judah stops at Ninth and Irving, a 10-minute walk from the museums.
The Inner Richmond and Clement Street
North of the park, Clement Street is one of the city’s great food streets. Burma Superstar at 309 Clement Street popularized Burmese tea leaf salad in San Francisco, and Arsicault Bakery on Arguello Boulevard is known for its croissants. The 5 Fulton and 44 buses connect it to the park.
Pack a picnic
For a picnic, stock up at the markets near Haight and Stanyan streets or on Irving Street before you walk in. At the ocean end, Outer Sunset coffee shops near Judah Street and the Great Highway are good for a warm drink after a beach walk. Hours change often, so check before you go.
